GET LIT: Trauma, War, and the American Experience
Inspired by 17th Century French Salons - intimate gatherings where people would come together to exchange literary and philosophical ideas under the roof of an educated host - Four Chambers Press will be hosting a night of literary conversation, community - and of course, drinking - with ASU Lecturer of English Rosemarie Dombrowski, PhD.
This month's topic: Trauma, War, and the American Experience
What does life look in poetry? What does life look like in America? Are we living in a state of trauma? To what extent are we products of war?
As space is limited, we recommend arriving early to secure your seat.
Please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or suggestions for future topics. Hope to see you there!http://www.valleybarphx.com/event/1444118/
This month's topic: Inquiry, Agency, and the Poetics of Resistance
Earlier this year, the University of Arizona Press released Poetry of Resistance, a selective selection of the more than 3000 contributions to the facebook page "Poets Responding to SB 070", addressing racial profiling, xenophobia, cultural misunderstanding, violence against refugees, shared identity, and more. So: how can poetry resists power structures within society? What does resistance look like? And how can poetry integrate with other fields, practices and disciplines--social work, anthropology, even academia--to bring disparate groups of people together and give voice to disenfranchised communities?
